Way before Christmas last year I had lapsed in my fitness. I stopped going to the gym and I stopped going for my Sunday morning runs round Great Windsor Park. I had so much going on at once, that I often didn’t know if I were coming or going and keeping up with my fitness was the last thing I wanted to do – well, that and being tempted by staying in the warm and eating Quality Street!
Unfortunately, this has meant that I have piled on a bit of the ol’ weight back on over the festive period – but then who hasn’t? Unless you’re my husband!
I decided that it’s now time. Things are settling down again, changes have been made and once again the motivation to get myself in to shape is there. It’s also helped that Paul has kept up with his fitness regime. He’s doing so well and in the past year has lost around 3 stone (42lb) and goes to the gym at least 5 days a week.
Thursday saw me return to the gym for the first time in a few months. It was hard, but I managed it. I did a mile on the treadmill in 09:13, 2.4 miles on the bike in 10 minutes , 5 minutes on the cross trainer, some weights, 100 ab crunches and some scissor leg exercises.
Whilst there, the manager roped me in to signing up for next weeks Boxercise class! It normally runs on a Friday, but they changed the day to a Wednesday so are hoping more people turn up. Guess it gives me an excuse to get my boxing gloves and pads out!
This week also saw me start back on my Sunday morning run. I was up and out of the house by 07:40am to meet up with the group I run with. I haven’t run for a while and I knew it would be tough – but it was real tough. I ended up doing a mixture of walking/running.
I really struggle to get in the zone sometimes and I give up a lot quicker than I should. I need to build up my stamina, and use my glutes (bum) for power rather than letting my legs do all the work.
I am going to try to get to the gym again a couple of times this week – and try to do some squats at home to kick my butt in to action… literally!
Next Saturday will see me take part in my first ‘proper’ run. I will be doing the Brutal 5k with Hayley from Simply Hayley. There will be lots of water and mud involved!!!
