I love Cornwall. It’s a glorious place to visit and it brings back so many great childhood memories for me.
I discovered Coombe Mill on Twitter and soon found out that they are in St.Breward on Cornwall, which also happens to be the next village as to where I spent most of my summers growing up! I couldn’t believe it. I knew I had to visit there, and take the children to show them this wonderful county.
I contacted Fiona at Coombe Mill and soon we had booked our trip! I couldn’t wait for our week mini-vacation!
It’s around a 5 hour drive to Coombe Mill from our home in Surrey. I remembered most of the scenery from my trips down as a child to visit my grandparents. I had forgotten how steep some of the hills are though!
We managed to find Coombe Mill fairly easy, although it’s right at the bottom of a valley, which meant driving down a fairly steep hill!
Upon arrival we were greeted by the lovely Fiona. She showed us to the cottage we will be staying in. I had seen pictures put on the their website…but they seriously do not do it justice! The cottage is amazing! It’s so spacious! We stayed in “Willow” which is a 3 bed, 2 bathroom cottage. It has a little play den for the children (including toys) and a Jacuzzi bath! The cottage was really child friendly. There are built-in stair gates at the top and bottom of the stairs, and also a gate on the den so children can play in there safely.
As well as 16th Century Cottages to stay in, Coombe Mill have an array of luxury Scandinavian Lodges and Riverside Cottages. Coombe Mill also boasts 2 large indoor BBQ area’s for guests to use, a gym, log stores, bike stores and Wi-Fi! There is a Laundry area, although most cottages and lodges are equipped with Washer Dryers.
The grounds are so spacious also. There are outdoor and indoor play areas as well as 30 acres of grounds to explore with the River Camel running through them.
Every morning (except for Saturday’s) there is the Animal Feed Run where guests can tag along and meet the many animals on the farm. Each child will take it in turns throughout the week-long break to “drive” the tractor with either Farmer Nick or Farmer Kym.
There are many animals on the farm, from Hens (where you can collect fresh eggs for that morning’s breakfast!), chickens, and geese to wallabies, deer and an alpaca! There are also donkeys, sheep, pigs, ponies, pygmy goats and rabbits.
Fiona and her family make you feel very welcome when you are visiting them and are really encourage the children to learn whilst they are there. They also host various events for guests, depending on the time of year you are visiting.
We really enjoyed our stay at Coombe Mill and I recommend to everyone who wants a family friendly holiday in a fabulous setting to check out Coombe Mill. You will make memories there to last a lifetime! We can’t wait to return!
