Drive Safe with Garmin nuvi Touchscreen Sat Nav

Safety when driving is extremely important to me as a parent, especially as the majority of the time my most precious cargo is in the car with me.

I often drive to new places to attend blogging events, or when we are travelling for a short break away and will spend ages looking up routes, checking maps and printing out directions to ensure that I know where I am going.

I was recently asked by Tesco Compare if I would like to test the Garmin nuvi Touchscreen Satellite Navigation system.

Garmin nuvi

Our Thoughts

Garmin nuvi I’ve never really used a Sat Nav – opting for old-fashioned paper directions – although I have occasionally used the maps app on my phone if I have got terribly lost.

I was quite impressed with the Gar
min Nuvi. The screen is a decent size at 5 inches and the picture quality of the maps is very good.

Garmin nuvi Setting up the satellite navigation was very easy. There is a manual included, but to be honest, you don’t need it. The screen is self-explanatory and therefore it was easy to store my home address and navigate a route needed from the systems pre-loaded maps of UK and Ireland.

The display is very clear to see and the voice tells you the name of the street you need to take. The voice itself is at a reasonable volume and tone – although she got a little angry at me when I went slightly off route!

There are some clever functions on the Garmin nuvi – for example, the screen splits in to two when you are approaching a junction displaying a map on one side and a clear picture of the junction on the other. This is very handy when you are unsure whether or not you need to take the junction or not.

Garmin nuviYou are also warned when you are approaching speed cameras, as well as having your speed displayed on the sat nav screen and an estimated time of arrival to your destination.

Another great feature on this device is the points of interest to discover local businesses, stores, restaurants etc. It’s very handy to have if you need a petrol station or supermarket in an unfamiliar area.

Overall, I thought that the Garmin nuvi was a very handy device and it made driving to an unfamiliar place safer as I wasn’t having to glance quickly at my directions, or having to pull over to re-check my route. It’s definitely a device that  I will be using many a time!

Dislaimer – I was sent a Garmin nuvi 50 Touchscreen Satellite Navigation system for the purpose of this review. However, this has not influenced my opinions.
