This summer we have a lot of home projects happening. I thought last summer was bad when we had our new kitchen installed, but this summer we have more going on!
We have a lot of work to do here and want to try and get as much of it done before the baby arrives as we can.
Our house is a very small 3 bed link terrace. When we purchased the house 6 years ago, we only had one child and I was pregnant with our 2nd. We thought we would be ok here for about 5 years and then look to move. Obviously the market being the way it is, we couldn’t afford to. Also we had since had a 3rd child, and now expecting our 4th we are going to be very cramped indeed. However, we do plan to sell up around Spring 2014. This gives us enough time to get things done to the house that we need to do, and to save up more pennies for a move.
So, the Home Projects going on this Summer are:
- Carpet installation – this is upstairs only. We currently have the original bare wood floors upstairs, which although are nice, are also a nightmare. They have natural holes in the wood. This is good for little people to put things down. Like money, toys and toothbrushes. It can also be noisy when little feet run along it, as well as cold in the winter.
- Bunk Beds – in the girls room. Even though their room is a double, it’s a tight squeeze to fit in a toddler bed and a cot bed, so we have decided that bunk beds would be a good idea. We have purchased some nice pine bunk beds, that actually convert to 2 singles beds so when it does come to moving, the girls can continue to have them as a bunk bed or singles if the wish.
- Interior Doors – the doors we have on at the moment have had it! They have holes in from where little people have thrown things. I put a hole in the bottom of the kitchen door after slipping and I booted the kitchen door as I fell. J has also covered his in stickers and most of them are on their last legs and hanging off. We have the doors ready and waiting to be hung, so we just need to do that.
- Windows – our windows are currently wooden single glazed. I don’t like having them open in the children’s rooms as they only have side openers and you cannot put them on a latch, so I always worry about one of them climbing and falling out. Being single glazed, they also let out a lot of heat and in the winter can be drafty. We also have a wooden sliding door between the lounge and the conservatory which is being replaced. Its a big heavy door (as it was external), and it’s very much on its last legs.
We went out today to get new bedding for the girls. We decorated their room last year a really nice pale pink, but have never really updated their bedding. We also thought it would be nice that as they will both have full single beds, that they can actually have matching bedding.
K decided she wanted to go with a “Cupcake” theme, so we purchased the Cupcake bedding and brought them both a matching novelty Cupcake Pillow.
The home projects start this week with the carpet being installed on Thursday and the Bunk Beds being delivered on Friday….. So watch this space for Home Project updates 🙂
