#InnocentFiveADay Fruit and Veg Fest

We’ve all been there at one stage or another. Struggling to get your child to eat their fruit and veg. I mean, who wants to eat healthy stuff when you’re 3, huh?

Surprisingly though, us parents are doing pretty well with our young ones as 93% of 1-3 year olds consume the right amount of fruits and veggies each day. However, we don’t do so well with encouraging the older children, as studies show that only 10% of 11-18 year olds meet the 5-a-day fruit and veg recommendation, and girls are less likely to get their 5-a-day – just 7% of girls compared to 10% of boys

A couple of weeks ago, the children and I were invited to Innocent Towers, the HQ of Innocent Smoothie, so find out about their #InnocentFiveADay campaign and their new fruit and veg smoothies.

As well as promoting their new smoothies, the event was about making fruit and veg fun for the children, and there were plenty of activities to encourage this.

I count myself lucky that the children really enjoy their fruit and veg, so encouraging them to eat healthily isn’t too much of a struggle. However, they do have their favourites and don’t often stray from what they enjoy, despite encouragement from Paul and I.

Innocent Towers itself has to be one of the coolest offices around! I visited there for a talk  last year and it was great going back. I think a few of us had job envy!! It has such a friendly, fun vibe to it – and they definitely pulled out all the stops in keeping the children entertained.

Each child had a Shopping List with various tasks which had to be completed throughout the event. Once a task was completed, they would gain a sticker.

Tasks included:

  • Fruit and Veg Heads
  • Bounce says
  • Coconut Shy
  • Painting with Fruit and Veg
  • Smoothie Making

All four children had such a great time, especially making their own smoothies. They even made their own labels for them. It’s definitely something we can continue to do at home.

This sounds like a great day – I’d love to visit Innocent Towers too! I definitely find it a struggle to get my three year old to eat enough vegetables although she will eat the fruit that she likes. Luckily my 1 year old loves fruit and veggies.
