I said goodbye to my husband and children as they dropped me off at my friend Amy’s house, ready for the start of our fun adventure together.
An early morning wake up call was on the cards for the following morning – 02:45am to be exact – ready to depart from Gatwick Airport at 05:55am.
We landed in Dalaman, Turkey around 11am local time. Once we had done the usual security checks nd baggage collection, we stepped out in to the Turkish heat to find our awaiting taxi shuttle to our hotel.
The drive to our hotel, Kervansaray in Marmaris, was a little under two hours – with a stop at a rest place where we managed to grab some water (or an ice cream!).
The hotel is all-inclusive and mainly hosts families and is made up of large family rooms and apartments.
Once we arrived at the hotel, we were given our wrist bands to entitle us to free drinks, food and snacks. Our room wasn’t quite ready yet, so we were told to help ourselves from the Snack Bar by the pool, so we took a seat outside in the sun and had a spot of lunch.
Our hotel room itself was a decent size with a single, double and a sofa bed. There were complimentary toiletries in the decent size en-suite shower room, as well as a mini fridge.
Once settled in, we got changed and headed down to the pool for a few hours before retreating back to our room and getting ready for dinner.
Before dinner we took a stroll to check out a few of the sights. As expected there were bars a plenty, all with their touts outside trying to entice you in with free drinks and compliments. Both Amy and I don’t drink much, so this didn’t really appeal to us, so we just politely said no and carried on.
Dinner at the hotel was a buffet style. There was plenty of food and various options to choose from – as well as a rather huge selection of desserts! There was also plenty of seating, both indoors and out, although outside was pretty popular, as you can imagine.
After dinner (and dessert!), Amy and I headed round to the bar. Now, being all-inclusive, drinks are free at the bar. Amy and I took our seats with our drinks….. herbal tea! I told you, we’re not big drinkers and we both found it rather funny that there is a free bar and we are sat drinking herbal tea. Definitely old before our time!
We headed up to bed at a reasonable time – especially having been up since silly o’clock! Despite hearing dogs fighting in the early hours, I slept relatively well.
Checkout wasn’t until 12, so after breakfast we headed down to the pool to catch a few more rays before we had to shower and ship out of the room.
After check out, we decided to hang around for a bit, until it was time to get a taxi to take us to Marmaris Marina, where we would be meeting our guide, Ali and the rest of our boat buddies……
