You sang the theme tune to Neighbours didn’t you? Admit it!
We moved in to our house back in July 2006. We soon got to know the elderly couple next door (one of whom has sadly passed), and the a family who lived a couple of doors along.
We are in a small cul-de-sac and live in a link terrace. Growing up, I always envisioned living in a street where you know the neighbours, their families and have that good relationship with that you can pop in for coffee or have a natter over the fences.
There have been many people come and go in the house that is attached to ours since we have lived here and then last year it went up for sale again.
I briefly popped in to the new neighbours just before they moved in and introduced myself etc. Then not much happened after that. The summer was hectic – I had stopped the children playing out for a few different reasons, and then the bad weather set in.
But the last few months the weather has been getting better and the kids are all out the back again playing together (we have a car park and garage block out the back where the kids enjoy playing on bikes and scooters etc). It’s been really great watching all the children play nicely together and we have gradually been getting to know our neighbours.
Rachel and I (yes, I know – we’re BOTH Rachel’s and spelt the same way too!) are quite similar and enjoy the same interests too! I recently helped her set up her blog – Life of a Wife, Mum, Daughter – as well as having movie days with the kids, trips to the park and more recently I went on Rachel’s Hen Day and we went to the cinema together!
It’s really great having neighbours who you get on with – not just for the kids, but for us parents too!!!
