The S+ by ResMed is the World’s first non-contact, fully comprehensive Sleep Tracking System
ResMed, a leading innovator in sleep that has been changing lives for more than 25 years, have released their smarter sleep solution, the S+ by ResMed, in the UK.
The S+ features patent-protected SleepSensor technology which makes it possible for the first time to track, analyse and improve sleep at home without needing to wear a wristband, use electrodes or mattress strips. Unlike other sleep trackers, it also has the capability to analyse each stage of sleep through the night.
One in three people in the UK regularly suffer from poor sleep and experience problems with daytime functioning as a result. Poor sleep can be associated with long-term mental and physical health consequences including a shortened life span. The S+ is designed to improve sleep from the very first night.
The S+ comprises of a device that sits beside the bed, a cloud-hosted Sleep Mentor system, and a free mobile app (Apple iOS and Android). The bedside device uses a highly calibrated respiratory and bio-motion sensor to measure and analyse sleep stages. It records movements caused by the expansion and relaxation of the chest with breathing in and out, and overall body movements such as positional changes, arm twitches and shrugs. Each morning, the S+ app delivers sleep scores and sleep charts to a connected phone or tablet, and the S+ Sleep Mentor uses a software algorithm based on over two million nights of sleep data to deliver personalised feedback and suggestions to help users improve their sleep.
My Thoughts on the S+
The S+ was super easy to set up and connect to my iPhone and the app is easy to navigate.
It is recommended that you plug your phone in at night and the plug does come with two USB outlets so you can charge your phone alongside the monitor.
Upon putting the phone into sleep mode, you are asked a few questions such as: How much caffeine have you had, how many alcoholic drinks have you had, how much exercise have you done and how stressful was your day.
You also get options to do a mind clear – where you can record voice memos or type a text memo about your day – as well as setting a smart alarm to gently wake you up within a certain time window, so you are not waking up when you are in a deep sleep, which can actually make you feel even more tired. You also have the option to play relaxation music to help you get to sleep.
Once these are set, and it takes no more than a couple of minutes, the blue light will go off your phone, and you are set for sleep.
The information given to you about your sleep is really informative. Obviously, the higher the sleep score, the better quality sleep you have had, but it also breaks down the score for you and tells you exactly how many hours sleep you got, how long it took you to sleep and how long you were in the various stages of sleep.
I am not sure how accurate this is for me, as I tend to have Zachary, who is 3, in the bed with us most nights, and he tends to sleep in front of me, so would be picked up by the monitor.
Overall, I do love this sleep monitor and all the information it provides you to make sure that you are getting the best sleep possible.
