Review: Vampire Diaries Season 1 Box Set

When The Vampire Diaries first aired I missed most of the episodes only catching the odd one here and there, so I never really managed to follow the storyline. I also thought it was a bit of a rip off on the Twilight Saga, until I found out that The Vampire Diaries books, written by L.J.Smith, were actually written before the Twilight books.

So, when we were asked if we would like to review the DVD box set of the first season of The Vampire Diaries I thought it would be a good opportunity to start the series from the beginning with an open mind and try not to compare it.

It’s Elena’s first day back at Mystic Falls High School since the tragic death of her parents. Along with her Aunt Jenna, Elena tries her best to look after her troubled younger brother, Jeremy, and salvage what family they have left. The first day is already shaping up to be a struggle for Elena until she meets the mysterious new kid at school, Stefan. Elena is touched that he can relate to what she’s going through. What Elena doesn’t know is that Stefan is a vampire, constantly resisting the urge to taste her blood. As their undeniable connection grows deeper, Stefan’s dangerous older brother, Damon, shows up to wreak havoc on the town of Mystic Falls – and claim Elena for himself.

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES is based on the bestselling book series from Alloy Entertainment, which has recently been re-released and is enjoying time on The New York Times Best Sellers List.

I actually thoroughly enjoyed the series more than I thought I would. Of course you have the heroine that is Elena and having 2 guys vying for her, and hey, with their looks, who wouldn’t want Stefan or Damon competing for them!!

The Vampire Diaries is classed as a “teen” drama, but really most will enjoy the series. Even P got in to it and he’s not that big a fan of vampires or “girly stuff” as he calls it.

I’ m now going to have to try to catch up with the other series……
