We do not live off-grid—at least, not yet. For now, we are building as much of a homestead life as we can where we are, while continuing to dream about a larger piece of property and the greater independence it might allow. That dream is not only about moving somewhere new; it is also about learning the skills, making the plans, and becoming more capable before we ever get there.
I am drawn to the idea of relying a little less on fragile systems and understanding more about the things our family depends on every day. Water, power, food, shelter, useful skills, and thoughtful preparation all play a part. We may not have every answer—or every system in place—but each project, experiment, and lesson helps us move another step toward a more self-sufficient and resilient life.
